Founded in 1942, National Tobacco Enterprise (NTE) is Ethiopia’s leading tobacco manufacturer and the proud producer of the iconic Nyala brand. With over 1,000 employees and partnerships with 10,300 tobacco out-growers, we play a vital role in Ethiopia’s economy. Our operations include a state-of-the-art factory in Addis Ababa and five major farms across Robi, Billate, Hawassa, Wolayta, and East Shoa.
In 2016, NTE became part of Japan Tobacco International (JTI) after JTI acquired a 71% stake for USD 1 billion - the largest private investment by a Japanese company in Ethiopia. Today, as part of JTI’s global network spanning 130 countries, we combine local heritage with international excellence.
