To assist in the mechanical handling, basic servicing, installation, removal, and operation-related tasks of medium voltage (MV) electrical motors under the supervision of qualified fitters, electricians, or engineers.
Mechanical & Operational Support
- Assist with installation, removal, alignment, and positioning of medium voltage electrical motors
- Support coupling and uncoupling of motors to driven equipment (pumps, fans, compressors, gearboxes)
- Carry out basic mechanical tasks such as cleaning, greasing, bolt tightening, and visual inspections
- Assist with bearing housing preparation and non-invasive mechanical checks
- Operate lifting equipment (e.g. chain blocks, cranes, forklifts) where authorized
Motor Handling & Workshop Duties
- Safely transport motors within workshop or site locations
- Assist with motor stripping and reassembly under supervision only
- Prepare motors for inspection, testing, storage, or dispatch
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of workshop and tools
Inspection & Reporting
- Perform routine visual checks for oil leaks, loose fasteners, abnormal noise, vibration, or overheating
- Report defects, damage, or unsafe conditions to supervisors immediately
- Complete basic job cards, checklists, and maintenance records as required
Health, Safety & Compliance
- Follow all site safety rules, lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures, and permit-to-work systems
- Use personal protective equipment (PPE) correctly at all times
- Do not work on live electrical equipment or energized MV systems
- Comply with company policies, safety standards, and applicable regulations
Scope & Limitations
- Not authorized to:
- Perform electrical work on MV or LV systems
- Conduct motor testing, commissioning, or fault finding
- Independently dismantle critical motor components
- Certify or sign off mechanical or electrical work
- All tasks must be performed under direction of a qualified person
