Job Description
Primary Responsibilities
To review all test reports to ensure compliance to internal QA/QC protocols and in line with SGS SZM Policy and Objectives, the technical requirements of the ISO/IEC 17025 standard and SGS Code of integrity and professional conduct. To maintain and assist expanding the quality system so as to ensure total compliance to ISO 17025:2017. SGS High level procedures and SGS Global requirements
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

- Optimisation of analytical instruments.
- To implement and maintain the integrated management system to meet the requirements of the international standards ISO/IEC 17025 and applicable local regulations in conjunction with the Senior Chemist
- Evaluate data in the quality role but shall not report opinions and interpretations
- Data evaluation and root cause determination following proficiency testing failures, customer complaints, audit findings, and improvement requests.
- Review and statistically trends Pt results
- Review quality data for trends, biases or problems.
- Coordinate and administer the improvement systems
- Manage the process of document control in the laboratory
- Provide planned quality related training and awareness as required
- Facilitate and plan management review
- Coordinating the preparation/validation of calibration standards.
- To liaise with supervisors and analysts on safety precautions and applicable MSDS.
- To eliminate and mitigate unsafe conditions and report the same to management.
- To understand and use the competence module in compliance with the training program.
- Deputise for Senior Chemist in his/her absence.
- Monitor staff/employee attendance.
- To train analysts and sample preparers in good laboratory practices.
- Any others that may be assigned by the superior.
Qualifications
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- Degree or diploma in engineering science or chemistry or related discipline.
- At least two years experience working in a similar environment.
- At least two years Quality Assurance/ Quality Control experience within a Quality Manage System based on ISO 17025 :2017
REQUIRED SKILLS
- Clear understanding of the role of a Chemist.
- Interpretation of the sample preparation and analytical procedures and standards normally applied to analytical services industry.
- Interpretation of the industry safety, health and environmental management standards.
- Knowledge of procedure documentation and implementation of ISO/IEC 17025 management systems.
- Knowledge of internal and external audit requirement
- Familiarity with computer programs such as SLIMS and MS application.
- Administrative/supervisory skills.
- Outstanding attention to detail

- To prevent use of faulty equipment/instruments.
- To approve use of chemicals.
- To evaluate and appraise subordinates.
- Ensure that the laboratory accreditation under ISO 17025 is maintained
- Identify non-conformances in timeously and maintain customer satisfaction
- Cease to carry on with work that may affect the quality(integrity) of services and report the situation to higher authority to action and assist.
