A well-established engineering consulting firm with a strong presence in infrastructure, municipal, and building development projects, is currently seeking a Civil Technician to join their Civil Engineering Department in Cape Town.
Responsibilities
- Develop, manage, and monitor project plans, budgets, and timelines to ensure successful project delivery.
- Coordinate with clients, contractors, consultants, and internal teams to align project objectives and deliverables.
- Prepare and maintain site records, progress reports, cost tracking documentation, and project updates.
- Supervise on-site construction activities, ensuring compliance with approved designs, specifications, and safety regulations.
- Conduct condition assessments and provide technical input on repairs, upgrades, maintenance, and new infrastructure works.
- Oversee bulk earthworks, sewage pipe laying, structural brickwork, concrete works, and related civil engineering activities.
- Implement and monitor quality assurance procedures and construction standards.
- Conduct material testing and ensure contractor compliance with project specifications.
- Issue site instructions and support contract administration processes.
- Calculate quantities, manage procurement requirements, and ensure efficient resource utilization.
- Monitor project risks and implement corrective actions where required.
- Support the delivery of projects across municipal infrastructure, housing developments, building maintenance, landfill sites, heritage site refurbishments, and infrastructure upgrade projects.
Requirements
- National Diploma in Civil Engineering.
- B.Tech or M.Tech in Project Management will be advantageous.
- ECSA Candidate Engineering Technician registration, or eligibility for registration, preferred.
- 5–6 years of relevant civil engineering and project management experience.
- Experience working on both public and private sector projects.
- Strong understanding of JBCC and NEC3/NEC4 contracts.
- Proven site-based civil or building project experience.
- Experience with housing developments, municipal infrastructure, building maintenance, landfill sites, and refurbishment projects.
- Proficiency in surveying, construction supervision, quality control, and contract administration.
- Knowledge of construction safety standards and environmental compliance requirements.
- Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Excellent report writing, documentation, and record-keeping skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Familiarity with ECSA/SACPCMP Stage 1–6 deliverables.
- Competency in utilizing AI tools for documentation and productivity enhancement.
