Location: Wadeville / Heidelberg, Gauteng

Our client is seeking an experienced Electrical Design Engineer to join their transformer division. The successful candidate will be responsible for the electrical design of new and repair transformers up to 50 MVA and 170 kV, ensuring designs meet customer specifications, industry standards, and manufacturing requirements.

Duties include:

• Perform electrical design calculations for distribution, industrial, miniature substation, and power transformers.
• Conduct strip and quote assessments, inspections, and failure investigations on transformers and miniature substations.
• Develop cost-effective transformer designs while considering available materials, manufacturing processes, and customer requirements.
• Analyse, interpret, and maintain electrical design databases.
• Provide technical support to Manufacturing, Sales, Purchasing, and Technical Support teams.
• Assist in the development and review of technical standards and engineering procedures.
• Support continuous improvement of design systems and software.
• Train and support personnel in transformer design and system applications.

Minimum Requirements

• National Higher Diploma or Degree in Electrical Engineering.
• Minimum 5 years' experience in transformer design, including distribution, industrial, miniature substation, and power transformers.
• Experience designing transformers up to 50 MVA and 170 kV class.
• Strong knowledge of transformer electrical calculations, materials, and manufacturing processes.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD, MS Office, and transformer design software.
• Experience with ERP/MRP systems such as SAP or SYSPRO.
• Valid driver's licence.
