Duties and Responsibilities
Curation, analysis, and compilation of current available knowledge on the causes, drivers and pathways of AMR in Tunisia:
- Develop the workplan for the consultancy including engagement plan to key stakeholders.
- Conduct a field survey to identify the possible presence of resistant germs such as slaughterhouse wastewater, swimming pool water, wastewater from healthcare establishments, river water near livestock farms, water from frequent beaches, gardening, poultry manure, ruminant manure, fish farming water, aquaponics breeding water.
- Compile current knowledge on contamination and characterization of the various environmental compartments by resistant germs.
- Identify the cause of development and spread of AMR in the environment, mapping out the sectors out risk.
Technical input and advice for national AMR management:
- Elaborate diagnostic report summarizing the current state of environmental AMR in Tunisia, highlighting key risks, knowledge gaps, and recommendations for priority actions.
- Identify knowledge/data gaps and develop operational or research actions to address the gaps into a clear and actionable roadmap to be submitted to the government following the workshop.
Communications and effective dissemination of the compiled knowledge to the target audiences.
- Participate in the national workshop, presenting the relevant outputs of the studies.
- Lead relevant exchanges/discussions during the workshop to feed into the knowledge/gap analysis.
Qualifications/special skills
- Advanced university degree master’s degree or equivalent in microbiology, environmental health, environment management, environmental science, or closely related fields is required.
- Two additional years of qualifying work experience may be accepted in lieu of a university degree.
- Two years of relevant professional experience in environmental policy, public health or related field is required.
- Proven experience working on antimicrobial resistance with a strong focus on environmental determinants such as pollution, chemical, waste and wastewater is required.
- Proven experience providing technical and policy support in multidisciplinary and multisectoral contexts at global, regional and/or national levels is required.
- Demonstrated capacity to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders including governments, UN agencies, the Quadripartite, private sectors and international organizations is desirable.
