Role Overview and Key Responsibilities The Financial Accountant will be responsible for the precise recording, processing, and reporting of all financial transactions. This role is critical in delivering reliable financial statements that guide management decisions and ensure regulatory compliance.
Financial Reporting:
- Prepare core financial statements including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements for both internal and external stakeholders.
Transaction Reconciliation:
- Perform reconciliations of bank accounts, trade receivables, payables, and general ledger entries to produce the monthly Trial Balance.
Management Accounts:
- Compile quarterly, half-yearly, and annual management accounts and reports to support planning, control, and decision-making processes.
Payroll Management:
- Ensure timely preparation of payroll and statutory payments to facilitate personal emoluments and maintain legal compliance.
Budgeting and Financial Analysis:
- Assist management with forecasting, budgeting, and analyzing performance variances.
Asset Management:
- Oversee the maintenance of the company’s fixed asset register to guarantee accountability and usability.
Audit Coordination:
- Organize and prepare documentation for internal and external financial audits.
Reporting Structure and Key Contacts The Financial Accountant reports directly to the Finance Manager and will liaise with the following internal and external stakeholders:
Internal Contacts:
Zambia Revenue Authority, National Pension Scheme Authority, Local Councils, NHIMA External Contacts:
External Auditors, Utility Companies, Professional Bodies, Commercial Banks Qualifications and Experience Required Minimum education:
- Full Form Five/Grade Twelve School Certificate.
Professional qualifications:
- Degree in Accountancy or Chartered Accountant certification (ACCA, CIMA, CA Zambia, or equivalent).
Membership:
- Registered member of the Zambia Institute of Chartered Accountants (ZICA).
Experience:
- At least 5 years in a similar financial accounting role.
- Knowledge of reporting requirements under the Insurance Act 2021 and IFRS standards (17, 18, etc.) is highly advantageous.
- Familiarity with accounting software will be considered an asset.
