Specific Duties & Responsibilities
- Lead the integration, cleaning, and quality assurance of multi-source health datasets DHIS2, SORMAS, EMRs, survey data, genomic sequencing, etc..
- Develop and maintain data pipelines and ETL processes using Python/R/SQL.
- Ensure compliance with national data protection laws Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023, WHO data-sharing protocols, and ethical standards for health data.
- Conduct statistical analysis, predictive modelling, and forecasting e.g., disease outbreak prediction, vaccine demand forecasting.
- Apply machine learning and artificial intelligence techniques regression, time-series, clustering, NLP, deep learning to public health challenges.
- Design and implement real-time dashboards and automated alert systems for surveillance using tools like Power BI, Tableau, R Shiny, or Shiny for Python.
- Provide technical support to epidemiologists, program managers, and State/LGA health teams on data interpretation and use.
- Develop and deliver training modules on health informatics, data science tools, and data literacy for public health staff.
- Conduct applied research and publish findings in peer-reviewed journals or technical reports.
- Prepare high-quality analytical briefs, policy notes, and data visualizations for senior management, donors, and stakeholders.
- Represent the organization in technical working groups on health informatics and data science.
Qualifications & Experience
- Minimum of Higher National Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Health Informatics, Data Science, Biostatistics, Epidemiology, Public Health with strong quantitative focus, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Master’s Degree in any of the above fields is an added advantage.
- Minimum of 4 years of progressive experience in data science or health informatics, preferably in the public health or development sector.
- Demonstrated proficiency in at least three of the following: Python Pandas, NumPy, Scikit-learn, TensorFlow/PyTorch, R, SQL, and data visualization tools Power BI, Tableau, ggplot2.
- Experience working with health information systems DHIS2, SORMAS, OpenMRS, KoboCollect and public health datasets.
- Strong understanding of epidemiological concepts and statistical methods.
- Certification in Data Science e.g., Google Data Analytics, or any other
- Knowledge of health data standards HL7, FHIR, ICD-11, SNOMED-CT.
- Proven experience working with large-scale health datasets and electronic surveillance systems
- Demonstrate good presentation skills.
- Advance knowledge of Machine Learning and AI techniques.
- Ability to work under pressure cooperatively as a member of a bigger data driven team.
- Excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.
