About the Job
- Mpala Research Centre is seeking a motivated and technically skilled IT Assistant to join its Information Technology team.
- The role provides first-line IT support across office and field operations, ensuring reliable systems, seamless communications, and accurate data reporting in a dynamic research and conservation environment.
- The IT Assistant will serve as the primary support contact for users, handling hardware, software and networks while also supporting IT asset management and EarthRanger domain awareness system.
Key Roles
- Provide first-line IT support for desktops, laptops, printers, software, and user access issues.
- Diagnose and resolve network and connectivity issues before escalation to the IT Manager.
- Maintain accurate IT asset inventory and support regular audits.
- Support EarthRanger reporting, data extraction, and basic analysis for operational use.
- Monitor IT systems and assist in routine maintenance, updates, and troubleshooting.
- Provide IT and communication support to field teams and remote operations.
- Manage and support TrboNet radio communication systems and field connectivity tools.
- Maintain IT documentation, knowledge base articles, and standard operating procedures.
- Support onboarding and offboarding of staff, including system setup and access management.
Experience and Qualifications
- Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, Telecommunications, or a related field.
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in IT support, help desk, or systems administration.
- Strong understanding of computer hardware, software, and basic networking.
- Experience in IT asset management and user support in a busy environment.
- Exposure to field communication systems, EarthRanger, or radio systems is an added advantage.
- Valid Kenyan Driving Licence with a clean driving record is mandatory.
- Willingness to travel frequently to field sites and remote operational locations.
