To conduct diagnostic tests on patient samples
such as blood, urine, tissues, and other bodily fluids. Analyzing test results to
assist in diagnosing and monitoring medical conditions by ensuring accuracy and
quality of laboratory procedures, maintaining laboratory equipment, and
adhering to safety and regulatory standards.
•
Responsible for laboratory quality control and quality
assurance programs; supervises and monitors the quality of test results through
participation in external proficiency test programs as may be required by
regulatory agencies.
•
Establish, execute, review and evaluate laboratory
procedures and policies and procedures for operating functions of laboratory
•
Supervises and monitors the proper disposal of bio
hazardous waste generated by the Laboratory.
•
Participate in staff performance management.
•
Analyze, supervise and manage all Laboratory
Department activities.
•
Plan, prepare and supervise laboratory services
relating to national standards and organization's policies.
•
Attain and manage appropriate and needed
accreditation.
•
Provide and perform access to laboratory personnel for
consultation and determine operational troubles in timely manner.
•
Perform analytic, pre and post analytic functions to
attain departmental goals and ensure stable conformance by laboratory staff.
•
Perform responsibility of Laboratory Document Control.
•
Head responsibility to maintain laboratory records,
reports and files.
•
Perform activities to fulfill report requirements and
record retention as established by accrediting agencies.
•
Monitor equipment usage and ensure proper maintenance.
•
Responsible for the dissemination and enforcement of
policies related to the protection of patients and employees.
•
Receive, label, and analyze patient samples, including
blood, stool, urine, and sputum, while ensuring proper handling and
transportation
•
Perform routine laboratory tests.
•
Record, interpret, and report test results to
clinicians in a timely manner.
•
Support community health outreaches and participate in
disease surveillance.
•
Develops, manages, communicates, and ensures
implementation of working instructions, standard operating procedures, and
operational standards with regard to all technical and /or administrative
processes and practices in support of the achievement of organizational
strategy and objectives.
•
Monitors equipment maintenance including enforcing
compliance to service level agreements with service providers, asset
management, procurement of goods and staff overtime expenditure to ensure the
most effective utilization of resources, optimization of stock levels and
reduction of costs at all times.
•
Monitors the maintenance and calibration of the equipment
used in the laboratory to ensure that it’s operating efficiently and provides
accurate results. This includes ensuring that instrument maintenance and
quality control results are recorded as well as trouble shooting.
•
Manages client liaison to maintain a positive image of
the organization, promote the services of the laboratory and monitor the resolution
of customer complaints.
•
Participates in
regular meetings with doctors, Pathologists and other technical managers,
coordinators to report on operational maters, discuss progress against agreed
plans and update / develop technical standards, procedures and work
instructions
•
Schedules staff
training and ensures that staff are trained in the Quality Management system
and the processes/procedures of the Laboratory.
•
Provides input
into evaluation and validations of new equipment and methods to ensure
standardization and continuous technological advancement.
•
Performs statistical analysis of management reports in
order to monitor work and performance status as well as determine expenditure
trends of the region and provide inputs into strategic planning of the
organization
•
Ensures that
external audits are conducted according to the schedule as shared by the
assessing body.
•
Identify
relevant training needs and assist in teaching and training of laboratory
personnel, interns and students, medical colleagues, and associated health
workers to ensure that they are competent in various laboratory techniques,
processes and systems.
•
Adheres to professional conduct requirements in line
with organizational policy and relevant professional body ethical standards and
monitors compliance of own employees in this regard.
•
Ensures that all client’s complaints, requests, or
suggestions are taken care of appropriately with timely resolution of complaints
or feedback
•
Schedules Laboratory meetings and ensures that these
are held accordingly to align laboratory processes and planned laboratory
activities as per world health calendar year.
