Purpose of the Role

  1. To be responsible for the overall management, coordination and quality assurance of laundry operations within the camp or facility.
  2. To ensure that all linen, uniforms, personal clothing and other washable items are processed, maintained and distributed efficiently, hygienically and in accordance with Company standards, client requirements and health and safety regulations.
  3. To oversee laundry staff, manage equipment utilisation, maintain stock and linen inventories, implement Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and ensure the consistent delivery of high-quality laundry services that support overall camp operations and client satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities

1. Laundry Operations Management and Quality Assurance
  • Establish and maintain an efficient laundry operating system to ensure all linen, uniforms and garments are cleaned, processed and returned within agreed turnaround times.
  • Develop and implement laundry process workflows, including receiving, sorting, washing, drying, pressing, folding and distribution.
  • Establish and maintain standardised checklists and work instructions for all laundry processes to ensure consistent service delivery.
  • Ensure laundry activities comply with Company hygiene standards, client specifications and contractual service requirements.
  • Monitor and control wash programmes according to fabric type, colour, contamination level and garment specifications.
  • Ensure appropriate use of detergents, chemicals and disinfectants in accordance with manufacturer instructions and safety standards.
  • Monitor laundry productivity and efficiency to ensure operational targets are met.
  • Preside over regular laundry team meetings and submit operational reports and feedback to the Camp Manager.
  • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement in laundry processes, equipment utilisation and operational efficiency.
2. Linen and Uniform Management
  • Manage the receipt, processing, tracking and distribution of camp linen, towels, bedding, table linen and uniforms.
  • Establish systems for linen control and tracking to minimise loss, damage or misuse.
  • Monitor linen usage patterns and coordinate with relevant departments to ensure adequate stock levels are maintained.
  • Inspect linen and garments for damage, wear or contamination and arrange repair, replacement or disposal where necessary.
  • Ensure proper handling and segregation of contaminated or bio-hazardous laundry, where applicable.
3. Laundry Equipment and Facility Management
  • Manage the operation and maintenance of all laundry equipment including industrial washing machines, dryers, presses, ironing equipment and folding machines.
  • Monitor equipment utilisation and performance to ensure optimal operational efficiency.
  • Establish preventative maintenance schedules and coordinate repairs where required.
  • Ensure all equipment is operated safely and in accordance with manufacturer specifications and Company policies.
  • Report equipment breakdowns and operational issues to the Camp Manager and follow up on repair or replacement processes.
4. Inventory and Consumables Control
  • Manage all laundry consumables including detergents, chemicals, softeners, bleaching agents and packaging materials.
  • Maintain accurate stock control registers and monitor daily usage of consumables.
  • Ensure safe storage and handling of chemicals in compliance with Health and Safety and HSE regulations.
  • Assist with scheduled stocktakes of laundry consumables and equipment.
  • Support reconciliation of inventory records and investigate discrepancies where identified.
5. Hygiene, Health and Safety Compliance
  • Implement and monitor health, hygiene and safety procedures within the laundry facility.
  • Ensure proper handling of chemicals, hot equipment, electrical appliances and heavy loads in accordance with safety standards.
  • Conduct regular inspections of the laundry facility to ensure compliance with Company SOPs, HSE policies and relevant legislation.
  • Ensure correct use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) by all laundry personnel.
  • Identify and address any non-conformances or safety risks through the appropriate reporting channels.
6. Client Service and Complaint Resolution
  • Respond to and investigate complaints related to laundry services, including lost, damaged or delayed items.
  • Implement corrective actions to address service shortcomings.
  • Maintain high levels of client satisfaction through consistent quality service delivery and responsiveness to client needs.
7. Operational Reporting and Performance Monitoring
  • Maintain accurate records of laundry throughput, equipment utilisation and productivity levels.
  • Prepare operational reports for submission to the Camp Manager.
  • Monitor service delivery performance and implement improvements where necessary.
8. Staff Management and Development
  • Supervise and coordinate the work activities of laundry attendants and related personnel.
  • Train staff on Standard Operating Procedures, hygiene standards and equipment operation.
  • Ensure staff understand and comply with established procedures and policies.
  • Conduct regular staff meetings to address operational issues and encourage feedback.
  • Monitor staff performance and provide coaching, development and corrective action where necessary.
  • Implement performance monitoring systems including soft point systems (discipline, punctuality, uniform compliance) and technical performance metrics (hard points).
  • Address staff concerns and resolve operational challenges through appropriate leadership and communication.
9. Effective Teamwork and Self-management
  • Take ownership and accountability for tasks and activities and demonstrate effective self-management in terms of planning and prioritising, and self-development.
  • Follow through to ensure that quality and productivity standards of work are consistently and accurately maintained.
  • Inform relevant parties in the event of tasks or deadlines not met, the potential risks thereof and provide appropriate resolution.
  • Manage colleagues’ expectations and communicate appropriately.
  • Demonstrate willingness to help others and “go the extra mile” to meet team targets and objectives.
QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Diploma in Hospitality Management or related field
  • Minimum 7 years’ experience in hospitality or laundry operations
  • At least 2 years in a supervisory or managerial role
  • Experience in industrial or large-scale laundry operations will be advantageous
