How You Will Contribute
You will:
- Partner & enable the line leaders to deliver the SQCDSM targets-Safety, Quality, Cost, Delivery, Sustainability & Morale for the lines, to ensure Process stability; Participate in the DMS- Daily Management systems meetings at the shift and line level
- Own the technology and process and centerline settings for the equipment and process and has deep technical mastery of the process and equipment; own the Progressive maintenance systems and work processes and the Progressive Maintenance Key Performance Indicators for the line/s along with Centerline Management systems; owns the Repairs & Maintenance budget of the line
- Develop, own and execute the line/s preventive and time-based maintenance systems and plans and builds capability of the team to execute themselves; Build spends at least 50% of time technical and maintenance skills of the technicians working in the shifts, so that they are able to operate and maintain their equipment themselves; be part of the PM Pillar, own all PM systems and work process at the line level and lead some of them at the department level
- Partner with the Asset and Reliability team for system improvement and execution of special maintenance tasks; be responsible for Change Management on the line/s, localization of spares and proper break-down analysis and R&M cost reduction for the line/s; represent the department/line/s as the site technology owner in the regional and global technology forums
- Assist in VSU for the new initiatives and enables the VSU team; help the line leader in internal and external benchmarking and reapplication; be the subject matter expert on one of the component categories and will be a trainer of PM related subjects for the plant

More About This Role
- Organize, co-ordinate and control of all mechanical engineering aspects of asset care for the plant, equipment, machinery and other related facilities and services at the factories - making them available for production activities.
What you need to know about this position:
- Daily management of all mechanical engineering activities within the making end of food & drinks factory.
- Professional preparation of bill of quantities BOQs for in-house and contract jobs with a high approval rate at the procurement review board PRB.
- Delivery of all mechanical-related aspects of the Departmental project on time and within budget at the making end of the plant.
- Draw up, set up and fully implement a PPM programme for the mechanical-related equipment at the making end of the Food Drinks factories.
- Resuscitate all malfunctioning or non-functional mechanical controls, devices and accessories on all equipment within the making end in the plant – as deemed fit by the production and engineering teams. These should be brought back to standard levels of functionality.
- Complete business continuity planning BCP assignments in a timely and professional fashion – working with Food Drinks Engineering manager and other members of the BCP steering committee.
- To ensure minimal mechanical-related machine breakdowns on all equipment within the making end of the factory.
- To maintain a high standard of machine performance.
- To train and develop the staff reporting to him/her.
- To be involved in the implementation and continuous upgrading of preventive maintenance programme for the equipment within the area of control.
- Work with the electrical & instrumentation manager to drive equipment reliability and ensure round the clock availability of equipment for production use daily.
- Implement mechanical related PPM programme in area of control
- Ensure all engineering and related activities are carried out in line with agreed engineering standards and safety requirements.
- Implement asset care management initiatives at the making end of the factory.
- Liaise effectively with support services providers to ensure prompt and quality service delivery to the making end of the factory.
- Liaise with PBS to ensure availability of critical mechanical spares for equipment within the making end of the plant.
- Carry out weekly, monthly and quarterly PPM in the plant.
- Ensure LOTO and permit to work and planned inspection conducted.
- Ensure use of right tools by technicians.
- Prepare and present weekly and monthly reports.
- Plan scheduled plant stoppages in conjunction with services.
- Carry out daily walk-through plant and restore plant to standards.
- Generate task lists for all mechanical maintenance activities within the making end of the factories.
- Draw up and fully implement a training programme for mechanical technicians across factories.

- Responsible - in conjunction with the other maintenance engineers - for technical training of all non-management staff in the department.
- To encourage and co-ordinate documentation of the work affecting the department.
- Required to establish good working rapport with managers and non-management staff in all support departments within the company, i.e. other teams-Cereal Conversion Plant, Confectionery, Technical as well as Engineering services, etc.
- Exercise his judgement on staff welfare and discipline.
- To play a very active role in forward-planning in conjunction with other managers.
- To use his experience and training to suggest new and innovative solutions to operational problems.
- To recommend necessary design modifications on machinery in order to maximize efficiency and reduce costs.
- To keep confidential any information that is given to him in the course of this work.
- To take on any other assignment or project as deemed fit by the engineering manager/production manager.
Education / Certifications:
- He/She must possess at least an HND or BSc in Mechanical engineering, from a reputable institution.
Job specific requirements:
- A minimum of 5 years relevant working experience is expected.
- A proven ability to learn quickly and be able to take responsibility for actions. –
- Must be computer literate.
