General Accountabilities:
Participate in the planning, organization and coordination of Mental Health activities, in close collaboration with the Mental Health activity manager and other medical team members, in order to ensure an efficient and effective implementation of the resources needed while maintaining high levels of quality in Mental Health MSF programs and activities. Coordinates activities of counseling services with other relevant actors and liaises with the local counterparts (like MoH, WHO, ICRC and NGO) on mental health matters, including referral services. Supervise the daily mental health activities and patient support according to MSF protocols and standards in order to provide the most appropriate support for clients with psycho social needs Liaise with the other MSF team members of the project. Supervise, in close coordination with the HR department, the associated processes (recruitment, training/induction, evaluation, potential detection, development and communication) of the staff under his/her responsibility in order to ensure both the sizing and the amount of knowledge required Oversee the administrative processes associated with psychosocial functioning. When needed, give psychological support to patients according to MSF protocols to improve mental health conditions of patients and enhance their functionality. Compile the data and statistic linked with MH activities and report to the MH activity manager Offer clinical counselling supervision to mental health counsellors in collaboration with the Mental Health Activity Manager. Ensure the patient’s related information is kept confidential
Specific Accountabilities:
1. Service Coordination & Integration - Plan, organize, and coordinate mental health activities with the MHAM, mental health and medical team to ensure effective resource use and service quality
- In collaboration with MHAM, Integrate mental health care across ITFC, Inpatient department for adult and pediatric units, TB/HIV clinic, maternity and neonatal care, emergency services, OPD, reproductive health, SGBV and chronic care services.
2. Supervisions and administration - Supervise and mentor counselor educators and community mental health workers, providing clinical and group supervision.
- Provide regular individual and group supervision sessions to counsellors using the msf supervision toolkit and other msf guidance.
- Guide mental health team in delivering trauma-informed care and psychosocial support for diverse patient groups, including IPD adults and pediatric patients, SGBV survivors, and those with severe mental illnesses.
- Support HR processes including recruitment, induction, training, evaluation, and professional development.
3. Patient Care and Support - When required, provide direct psychological support and counseling according to MSF protocols.
- Ensure timely mental health assessments and interventions are integrated into general medical care.
4. Data Management & Reporting - Collect, compile, and analyze mental health service data; prepare and submit monthly progress reports.
- Monitor service outcomes and recommend improvements based on findings.
5. Administration & Compliance - Oversee leave, scheduling, and administrative tasks for supervised staff.
- Work with translators to ensure accurate and sensitive communication.
- Maintain strict confidentiality of patient data, case files, and organizational property.
6. Program Development & Evaluation - Participate in program design, monitoring, and evaluation with the MHAM and the other MH Supervisor.
- Coordinate and enhance peer support and psychosocial group activities across wards.
- Support interdepartmental case discussions with medical team, psychiatric nurses, and mental health team.
- Lead and oversee mental health and psychosocial support services for survivors of sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV).
- Ensure confidential, survivor-centered, and trauma-informed care across all relevant departments and community settings.
- Coordinate with medical, protection, and legal actors to ensure comprehensive survivor support and referral pathways.
- Build staff capacity on handling disclosures, crisis intervention, and safe referrals for SGBV cases.
- Facilitate and organize play therapy and child-focused psychosocial sessions to promote emotional wellbeing and resilience.
- Development and supervise structured play and educational activities in pediatric units, outpatient areas, and community programs
- Train and guide counselor educators on child-friendly communication and therapeutic play techniques.
7. Sexual Violence and Trauma Response 8. Child and Play Therapy Support - Collaborate with pediatric and inpatient teams to address the psychosocial needs of hospitalized and recovering children.
