Requirements

Education:

  • An Advanced University Degree Master’s or higher in one or more of the following fields: Development Studies, Gender Studies, Public Health, Community Health, Public Administration, Social Sciences, WASH Engineering, Social and Behaviour Change Communication, Monitoring and Evaluation, or other closely related disciplines relevant to the assignment.

 Work Experience:

  • At least 7–10 years of progressively responsible professional experience in public health, water, sanitation and hygiene WASH, gender equality and social inclusion GESI, women’s empowerment, or community development.
  • Demonstrated experience in conducting gender analyses, assessments, or evaluations, preferably within WASH or related sectors.
  • Proven expertise in Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning MEL, including design and implementation of mid-term or end-line evaluations.
  • Strong track record in applying gender evidence and analysis to inform programme design, strategy development, and policy recommendations.
  • Extensive experience in qualitative research methodologies, including conducting and analyzing KIIs, FGDs, and participatory approaches. Experience in feminist evaluation methodologies is an asset.
  • Experience working with government institutions, UN agencies, NGOs, and community stakeholders, particularly in low-resource or development contexts.
  • Demonstrated capacity to manage field logistics, coordinate data collection, and ensure adherence to ethical and quality standards.
  • Excellent facilitation, stakeholder engagement, and communication skills, including ability to interact effectively with diverse audiences at national and community levels.
  • Strong analytical, synthesis, and report writing skills, with ability to produce high-quality, evidence-based outputs within tight deadlines.

 Language Requirements:

  • Fluency in English written and spoken is required.
  • Working knowledge of Hausa or other relevant local languages in Kaduna and Adamawa is a strong asset.

Knowledge/Expertise/Skills:

  • Strong understanding of gender-transformative programming approaches, including power analysis and intersectionality.
  • Familiarity with WASH systems strengthening, including service delivery, governance, financing, and community engagement.
  • Experience in gender-sensitive and inclusive data collection and analysis, including addressing ethical considerations and safeguarding.
  • Proficiency in data analysis tools qualitative and/or quantitative is desirable.
  • Strong understanding of social norms and behaviour change related to WASH and gender.

Desirables:

  • Experience working in Northern Nigeria, particularly Kaduna and/or Adamawa States.
  • Strong interpersonal and cross-cultural communication skills, with sensitivity to local contexts.
