Project coordinator – PABIN - SIDCER Recognition Program 

Background

The Armauer Hansen Research Institute (AHRI), established in 1970 under the Ethiopian Ministry of Health through the support of the Norwegian and Swedish Save the Children organizations, is Ethiopia’s leading public health research institution. Named after Gerhard Henrik Armauer Hansen, who discovered the leprosy bacillus, AHRI has over five decades of experience in biomedical research and capacity building. Reorganized under Council of Ministers Regulation No. 530/2023, AHRI is mandated to conduct biomedical, clinical trial and bioequivalence research, strengthen local pharmaceutical production, and advance research capacity development. The Institute serves as a national and regional hub for research, innovation, partnerships, and knowledge generation that contribute to improving health outcomes in Ethiopia and beyond.

Purpose of the Vacancy

We are seeking a highly motivated, organized, and proactive Project coordinator to support the implementation of activities under the Pan-African Bioethics Initiative (PABIN), a regional initiative hosted at AHRI. It works to strengthen research ethics systems and improve the quality of ethical review across Africa. PABIN supports Research Ethics Committees (RECs) through the implementation of the Strategic Initiative for Developing Capacity in Ethical Review (SIDCER) Recognition Programme (SRP). The successful candidate will play a key role in coordinating the implementation of the SRP by engaging with participating institutions and stakeholders, organizing and supporting SIDCER recognition surveys, facilitating capacity-building activities, and contributing to project planning, monitoring, reporting, and knowledge dissemination. 

Responsibilities

Project coordination and implementation

• Coordinate the implementation of PABIN activities and SRP initiatives according to approved work plans and timelines.

• Promote, identify and engage potential RECs interested in participating in the SRP.

• Coordinate project activities, schedules, meetings, surveys, and follow-up actions with participating institutions and stakeholders.

• Organize logistics for site visits, workshops, webinars, and stakeholder meetings.

• Maintain project documentation, activity trackers, and progress monitoring tools including project milestones and deliverables  

• Enhance the visibility of project activities and outputs by maintaining and regularly updating the PABIN website and other digital communication platforms.

• Manage PABIN website in coordination with the ICT team at AHRI

• Any other related duty assigned by the institute

Stakeholder engagement

• Build and maintain effective relationships with local, regional, and international partners, RECs, project collaborators, and other stakeholders.

• Coordinate activities with international partners and collaborating institutions.

Research synthesis and knowledge translation

• Synthesize findings from workshops, case studies, webinars, and other resources.

• Prepare technical reports, policy briefs, presentations, and other knowledge products.

• Assist in documenting best practices and lessons learned.

• Support dissemination of project findings through webinars, workshops, and publications.

Grant development, resource mobilization and document preparation 

• Identify funding opportunities relevant to research ethics, bioethics, and health systems strengthening and write grants.

• Support grant proposal development, including literature reviews, drafting technical sections, coordinating partner inputs, and compiling supporting documents.

• Contribute to funder reports and project documentation as required.
