FEM is seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Risk Analyst to support the effective execution of enterprise and operational risk management processes. This role is integral to strengthening the organisation’s risk management framework, ensuring that risks are proactively identified, monitored, and accurately reported. This position will report to the Risk Manager. The successful candidate will contribute to embedding a strong risk culture across the business by supporting risk processes, maintaining dashboards, producing insightful reporting, and assisting with risk awareness and training initiatives.

 

Key responsibilities:

  • Maintain and update business unit, project risk registers and Risk and Control Self-Assessments (RCSAs), including capturing and maintaining records on the risk system
  • Support business units with risk data collection, quality assurance and the consolidation of risk and control information across business areas
  • Review controls with process owners, monitor control effectiveness, track mitigation actions and follow up with action owners on overdue or at-risk items
  • Identify, monitor and escalate emerging risks and actions that may not meet agreed timelines
  • Monitor and update Key Risk Indicators (KRIs), identify trends, anomalies and early warning indicators, and prepare inputs for operational risk dashboards and reports
  • Design, maintain and update operational risk dashboards and risk reporting for management decision-making
  • Track and monitor operational risk incidents, near-misses and action plans, and maintain accurate incident, operational loss and loss event registers
  • Implement risk monitoring plans, report on findings, support investigations and ensure the timely escalation of significant incidents and operational losses
  • Assist with the quarterly sign-off of operational losses by management to ensure all known losses and near-misses are reported
  • Perform data analysis to identify trends, patterns and emerging risks, and prepare reports and insights for management
  • Assist in reviewing risk processes and policies and support management in addressing internal audit findings
  • Assist in developing and delivering risk training content, and maintain training materials and attendance records
  • Respond to routine risk-related queries from business units and provide guidance on risk registers, KRIs, incidents and risk tools within agreed scope
  • Support risk system implementation and enhancements, including user acceptance testing, data validation, process testing and post-implementation user support
  • Maintain Business Continuity Management (BCM) documentation, implement action plans to agreed timelines, and obtain updates for the combined assurance model from control owners and assurance providers

 

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in, risk management, economics, or a related field
  • A postgraduate qualification in Risk Management (advantageous)
  • Minimum of 2 years’ work experience in risk management, preferably within the financial sector
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong understanding of risk management principles and practices
  • Familiarity with insurance regulations is an advantage
  • Proficiency in risk tools, reporting and dashboards with excellent analytical and quantitative skills
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills with an ability to work collaboratively across teams and with senior management
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously with high attention to detail and to meet deadlines

 

We have offices regionally in Cape Town, Durban and Johannesburg.  This position will be located in Rosebank, Johannesburg.
