Minimum Requirements:
- Diploma / Degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Health, or related field
- SACPCMP registration advantageous
- SAMTRAC / NEBOSH / COMSOC advantageous
- Blasting / mining induction / first aid depending on site
Experience - 8–15+ years safety experience
- 5+ years in management role
- Mining, crushing, construction, or industrial environment experience
Technical Expertise Required - Occupational health and safety systems
- Risk assessments (HIRA, baseline, issue-based, continuous)
- Incident investigation methodologies (ICAM, RCA, 5 Why)
- Legal compliance audits
- Contractor safety management
- Emergency preparedness and response
- Safety training systems and inductions
- Permit-to-work / isolation systems
- Working at heights, confined spaces, lifting operations
- Mine safety regulations and standards in South Africa
Key Responsibilities - Develop and implement site safety strategy
- Ensure compliance with the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy and Mine
Health & Safety legislation - Lead inspections, audits, and legal appointments
- Manage incident investigations and corrective actions
- Drive behavioural safety and culture improvement
- Oversee contractor and visitor safety controls
- Chair safety meetings and management reviews
- Track leading and lagging indicators
- Ensure PPE, SOPs, and emergency systems are effective
Key KPIs - LTIFR / TRIFR
- Number of incidents / near misses
- Audit scores
- Corrective action close-out rate
- Safety training completion %
- Legal compliance status
- Lost days due to injury
