PKF Accounting is seeking a detail-oriented and technically strong Senior Accountant to join our accounting team. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing a portfolio of clients, overseeing full accounting functions, and ensuring compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements. This role requires a proactive individual who thrives in a deadline-driven, multi-client environment and can engage professionally with clients and internal stakeholders.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES, but will not be limited to:

Client Accounting & Financial Management

  • Manage full accounting function for a portfolio of clients across various industries
  • Perform bookkeeping up to trial balance and balance sheet level
  • Prepare and review:
    • Monthly management accounts
    • Income statements and balance sheets
    • Cash flow reports
  • Conduct detailed balance sheet reconciliations and resolve discrepancies
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records in line with accounting standards

Tax & Compliance

  • Prepare and submit VAT returns (VAT201) and ensure compliance with SARS regulations
  • Assist with provisional and annual tax calculations where required
  • Ensure adherence to all statutory deadlines and regulatory requirements
  • Liaise with SARS on queries, audits, and submissions

Payroll Administration

  • Process payroll for multiple clients
  • Prepare and submit VAT returns (VAT201) and ensure compliance with SARS regulations
  • Perform EMP501 reconciliations and submissions
  • Perform OID reconciliations and submissions
  • Ensure compliance with PAYE, UIF, SDL and OID regulations
  • Work with payroll systems to maintain accuracy and confidentiality

Client Relationship Management

  • Act as a primary point of contact for clients on accounting-related matters
  • Provide financial insights and support to clients and directors
  • Build and maintain strong, professional client relationships
  • Communicate effectively regarding deadlines, deliverables, and financial performance

Operational & Team Support

  • Work collaboratively with junior accountants and provide guidance where required
  • Assist with process improvements and efficiencies within the accounting function
  • Ensure all work is completed accurately and within deadlines
  • Support partners/directors with ad hoc financial and operational requests

REQUIREMENTS & COMPETENCIES:

  • Diploma or Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • 3–5 years’ experience in an accounting or similar role
  • Experience within an accounting firm or multi-client environment is highly advantageous
  • Strong knowledge of:
    • Bookkeeping principles up to trial balance
    • VAT and payroll legislation
    • Financial reporting and reconciliations
  • Proficiency in accounting software (preferably Xero)
  • Experience with payroll systems (preferably SimplePay)
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills
  • High attention to detail and accuracy
  • Strong organisational and time management skills
  • Ability to manage multiple clients and deadlines simultaneously
  • Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical thinking
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
