Job Summary

  • The Senior Fiber Backhaul Engineer is responsible for the design, deployment, and optimization of the company’s backbone fiber infrastructure.
  • You will lead critical infrastructure projects, oversee complex splicing and testing operations, and ensure that the fiber network connectionremains robust, scalable, and capable of supporting high-speed enterprise connectivity.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the architectural planning of fiber backhaul routes, ensuring optimal path redundancy and adherence to industry standards for long-distance data transmission.
  • Serve as the final technical authority for diagnosing and resolving severe signal degradation or physical fiber breaks using advanced diagnostic tools like OTDR and fusion splicers.
  • Manage the end-to-end execution of large-scale fiber expansion projects, from initial route surveying and permit acquisition to final commissioning and documentation.
  • Supervise third-party civil works and fiber contractors to ensure all installations meet the company's internal quality and safety specifications.
  • Analyze fiber usage trends to anticipate future bandwidth needs, planning strategic upgrades to the backbone to prevent network bottlenecks.
  • Mentor and provide on-the-job training to Junior Fiber Backhaul Engineers, ensuring the team maintains high proficiency in splicing, testing, and safety protocols.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical / Electronics Engineering, Telecommunications, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 6 years of intensive, hands-on experience in fiber optic network engineering, particularly in a backbone or backhaul environment.

Technical Proficiency:

  • Expert-level competency in fiber optic link budget calculations, splicing, and termination.
  • Hands-on mastery of advanced fiber testing equipment OTDR, power meters, optical spectrum analyzers.
  • Professional certifications in fiber optics or network design e.g., FOA-certified technician or similar are highly preferred.

Core Competencies:

  • Ability to manage technical infrastructure and engineering projects distributed across multiple organizational branches.
  • A proactive approach to network maintenance that prioritizes long-term infrastructure stability over "quick fix" solutions.
  • Ability to lead teams during emergency fiber restoration efforts, often under tight deadlines to minimize impact on enterprise clients.
