Statement of the Purpose:

The job holder is responsible lead the drafting and review of complex legal documents, ensuring compliance with statutory laws and alignment with ECMA’s interests. They will advise senior management and the Board on high-level legal strategies and risk management, represent ECMA in legal forums and negotiations, and mentor junior legal staff, providing guidance and support on legal matters.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Contribute a legality assurance perspective to the department’s strategic and governance processes, particularly to the executive decision-making process
  • Instruct any respective solicitors to conduct legal business on behalf of the department, in accordance with the executive team’s guidance
  • Advises various organs of the Authority's departments on laws, regulations, directives, contracts court decisions and other legal issues 
  • Advise the authority on the legal aspects of transactions as well as continued research into various aspects of the law and regulatory framework impacting on the legal viability of the transactions
  •  Build an understanding of legal issues, risks and obligations though coaching, advice, communications and training for other legal services staff and managers
  • Help to ensure appropriate legal policies and practices are in place to manage the legal obligations and legal risks of the Department effectively
  • Provide legal advice to other divisional heads on the interpretation of statements, legal instruments and regulations to other departments
  • Draft and/or reviews contracts and other legal documents 
  • Handle legal correspondences; signs on replies made in writing to different government/non-government bodies.
  • Represent the Authority in Legal Proceeding before courts and tribunal's 

Qualification Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree (LLB) or above in law or related field to the Job function from an Accredited or recognized learning institution.
  • 6 years of relevant working experience
