Senior Underwriter – Trade Guarantees (Fuel Sector)

Company and Job Description: 
Reporting to senior leadership, you will take ownership of a portfolio of trade guarantee clients, assess credit risk, underwrite facilities, manage client relationships, and identify opportunities for sustainable business growth. 
 
You'll join a high-performing, collaborative team that values innovation, entrepreneurial thinking, and continuous improvement, while working within a business that is investing heavily in digital transformation and AI-enabled underwriting practices. 
 
This is a senior, commercially focused role suited to an underwriting professional who enjoys analysing complex financial information, building long-term client relationships, and making sound credit decisions that support business growth. 
 
Key Responsibilities: 

• Underwrite new and existing trade guarantee facilities  

• Analyse financial statements and assess credit risk  

• Make sound underwriting and credit decisions  

• Manage an established portfolio of commercial clients  

• Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, brokers and beneficiaries  

• Conduct ongoing facility reviews and portfolio monitoring  

• Identify business development opportunities within your portfolio  

• Stay informed of industry developments, legislation and market trends  

• Support automation, digitisation and continuous improvement initiatives  

• Contribute to strategic projects and the ongoing success of the underwriting team 

What We're Looking For: 
Essential 

• BCom degree  

• Minimum 10 years' experience within:  

• Financial Services; and/or  

• Fuel Industry  

• Strong financial statement analysis experience  

• Proven client relationship management experience  

• Excellent commercial judgement and credit risk assessment ability  

• Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills  

Advantageous 

• Experience within Trade Guarantees or Surety/Guarantee underwriting  

• Business development experience  

• RE5 qualification  

• FAIS compliance  

• Knowledge of the fuel industry
