Shift Supervisor

What you’ll be doing

• Ensure EHS and housekeeping standards are maintained
• Ensure reactors and utilities are in operational condition
• Inform maintenance of any breakdowns immediately
• Troubleshoot any problems with Data Control System in conjunction with operators
• Issue permits when required
• Supervise emergency shut down and evacuation when required
• Supervise all production processes and ensure all relevant documentation and reports are filled in accurately and timeously
• Monitor cycle times and investigate any deviations
• Ensure that all completed batch cards are checked, accurately filed and all queries are resolved before handing to admin for processing and costing
• Ensure quality standards are maintained with all products and that laboratory work is in line with batch instructions
• Ensure correct product packaging, labeling and preservation as per instructions
• Ensure accurate and informative handover during shift change
• Ensure effluent plant capacities are maintained
• Assist with waste management on site in conjunction with the plant manager/foreman
• Supervise staff  (approx. 10 members) including safety, discipline and delegation of duties
• Assume responsibility for entire shift including plant, laboratory, staff and equipment
• Take responsible care for the health and safety of self and others
• Commit to a clean, safe and healthy environment
• Use and take proper care of protective clothing and other health and safety facilities and equipment provided
• Report any situation believed to present a risk to health and safety of self and others
• Co-operate with any person to permit compliance with the duties and responsibilities placed on that person in terms of the Occupational Health and Safety Act No.85 of 1993

• Matric with Mathematics and Science
• Diploma in Chemical Engineering
• 2 years supervisory experience
• Diploma in Production Supervision and advantage
• 5 years’ experience in Chemical Manufacturing Process
• EHS experience including First Aid and Fire Fighting
• Computer literacy on an intermediate level
• English and one other official language

• Approx. Monthly R32 000 basic plus Medical and Provident and 13th cheque. (Depending on current remuneration and experience)

• Shift work
• Rotating night shifts
