Our client, a well-established agri company, is seeking an experienced Vehicle Workshop and Transport Foreman to join its engineering team in Grabouw.The successful candidate will oversee the day-to-day operation of the vehicle workshop, manage preventative maintenance and breakdown repairs, coordinate transport-related activities and ensure that the company’s fleet remains safe, reliable and operational.This role is suited to a qualified diesel mechanic with strong technical knowledge, proven supervisory experience and the ability to manage a busy workshop efficiently.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and manage planned maintenance schedules to minimise breakdowns and downtime.
- Ensure that vehicle breakdowns are attended to promptly.
- Oversee repairs, servicing and preventative maintenance on trucks, forklifts and other diesel-powered vehicles.
- Conduct quality checks on repaired vehicles.
- Manage workshop staff and monitor performance.
- Coordinate transport-related activities and ensure smooth daily operations.
- Monitor spare-parts availability and assist with procurement.
- Maintain a clean, safe and well-organised workshop.
- Assist with budgeting, monitor costs and identify opportunities for cost savings.
- Safeguard company vehicles, tools, equipment and workshop assets.
Minimum Requirements
- Qualified diesel mechanic with a completed trade test.
- At least 5 years’ post-trade-test experience.
- 3–5 years’ workshop management or supervisory experience.
- Strong technical knowledge of trucks, forklifts and other diesel vehicles.
- Computer literacy.
- Valid driver’s licence. A Code EC licence with a valid PDP or a forklift licence will be advantageous.
- Procurement experience.
- Willingness to work extended hours when required.
- Medically fit to perform the duties associated with the position.
