Key Responsibilities:
Maintenance & Repairs
- Perform hands-on maintenance and repairs on:
- Readymix trucks (mixers)
- Yellow plant (loaders, excavators, etc.)
- Batching plant equipment
- Diesel engines, hydraulics, and pneumatic systems
- Diagnose mechanical faults quickly and accurately to minimize downtime
- Ensure all breakdowns are attended to urgently and resolved efficiently
Supervision & Leadership- Supervise and lead mechanics and assistants on site
- Allocate daily tasks and monitor productivity and workmanship
- Provide on-the-job training and mentorship to junior staff
- Enforce discipline and maintain high work standards
Preventative Maintenance- Implement and manage planned maintenance schedules
- Ensure all equipment is serviced and repaired in line with company standards
- Maintain accurate service and maintenance records
Operational Support- Work closely with plant and operations teams to ensure equipment availability
- Attend to call-outs and breakdowns outside of normal hours when required
- Ensure critical spares are identified and communicated timeously
Health, Safety & Compliance- Ensure all maintenance work complies with safety standards and procedures
- Conduct risk assessments before major repairs
- Enforce PPE compliance and safe working practices
- Maintain housekeeping standards in workshop and work areas
Cost & Asset Control- Monitor usage of parts, tools, and consumables
- Prevent wastage, misuse, and theft of company assets
- Assist in controlling maintenance costs without compromising quality
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Qualifications- Male, between the ages of 35 and 55
- Physically fit and healthly with no restrictions (mine medical clearance)
- Trade Test: Diesel Mechanic (or equivalent recognised qualification)
- Minimum 5–8 years’ experience as a diesel mechanic
- Proven experience in Foreman role
- Experience in:
- Commercial Diesel Trucks
- Yellow plant and heavy-duty equipment
- Batching plant maintenance
- Strong fault-finding and diagnostic ability
- Solid understanding of diesel engines, hydraulics, and electrical systems
- Computer literate at intermediate level (mandatory)
- Ability to work independently and under pressure
- Strong leadership and team management
- Hands-on, practical problem solver
- High sense of urgency and accountability
- Good communication skills (verbal and written)
- Ability to work in remote site conditions
- Reliable and disciplined
- Valid driver’s licence (Code 14 equivilent)
- Willingness to work extended hours and be on standby
- Willing to work away from home Medically fit for site work
- Ability to work in a high-pressure, production-driven environment
