A leading Civil Engineering Contractor is seeking an experienced and highly organized Buyer to join its Cape Town-based team. This is an excellent opportunity for a procurement professional with experience in the civil construction sector to play a key role in supporting large-scale infrastructure and earthworks projects.
Key Responsibilities- Source, negotiate, and procure construction materials, plant, equipment, and services.
- Obtain and evaluate supplier quotations and ensure cost-effective purchasing decisions.
- Establish and maintain strong supplier and subcontractor relationships.
- Monitor stock levels and coordinate deliveries to project sites.
- Issue purchase orders and ensure accurate procurement records are maintained.
- Work closely with Project Managers, Site Teams, and Quantity Surveyors to meet project requirements.
- Track supplier performance, pricing trends, and market availability.
- Ensure procurement activities comply with company policies and project budgets.
- Resolve supplier queries and delivery issues efficiently.
Minimum Requirements- Relevant qualification in Procurement, Supply Chain Management, Logistics, or a related field.
- 5+ years' experience as a Buyer within the Civil Engineering, Construction, or Infrastructure sector.
- Strong knowledge of civil engineering materials, plant, and procurement processes.
- Proven negotiation and supplier management skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and procurement systems.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and administrative abilities.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced project environment and manage multiple priorities.
Preferred Experience- Experience procuring materials for roads, earthworks, pipelines, bulk services, and infrastructure projects.
- Established supplier network within the South African construction industry.
- Strong commercial awareness and cost-control focus.
