Job Purpose:
The Construction Foreman will oversee daily operations on-site, managing a team of artisans, general hands, and subcontractors. This role ensures that work is executed strictly according to technical drawings, project timelines, and quality standards, while maintaining a safe working environment.
Key Result Areas (KRAs) & Responsibilities:
Site Supervision & Labor Management: Direct, coordinate, and supervise daily activities of site workers (bricklayers, carpenters, steel fixers, general hands). Allocate tasks efficiently to optimize productivity.
Project Execution & Quality Control: Interpret architectural and engineering drawings accurately. Ensure all construction work complies with technical specifications, standard building regulations, and project plans.
Material & Equipment Optimization: Monitor material deliveries, manage inventory on-site to prevent waste or theft, and ensure construction machinery and tools are properly maintained.
Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) Compliance: Enforce strict health and safety regulations on-site (zero-tolerance for non-compliance with PPE and safety protocols) in line with National Social Security Authority (NSSA) and industry standards.
Progress Reporting: Maintain daily site diaries and compile weekly progress reports for the Project Manager/Operations Manager, highlighting milestones, material variances, or timeline delays.
Qualifications, Experience, and Attributes:
Qualifications: Class 1 Artisan status (in Bricklaying, Carpentry, or Plastering) OR a National Diploma in Civil Engineering / Construction Technology from a recognized polytechnic.
Experience: Minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience in supervisory roles on medium-to-large-scale construction sites in Zimbabwe.
Technical Skills: Deep understanding of concrete works, structural steel, brickwork, and reading complex structural blueprints.
Regulations: Strong working knowledge of local building bylaws, NSSA safety regulations, and NEC (National Employment Council) for the Construction Industry guidelines.
Key Attributes: Strong leadership, firm disciplinary management, excellent problem-solving abilities, and a high level of integrity (verifiable references required).
