About the role
We're looking for a detail-oriented and eager Junior Finance Intern to join us. You'll support our finance and operations functions, get hands-on exposure to real financial data, and build practical skills in bookkeeping, reporting, and financial administration.
Responsibilities:
- Assisting with capturing and reconciling financial transactions in accounting software.
- Supporting the preparation of monthly financial reports and summaries.
- Processing and tracking invoices, purchase orders, and expense claims.
- Helping maintain accurate records of accounts payable and receivable.
- Assisting with payroll data checks and timesheet reviews.
- Supporting month-end and year-end close activities.
- Contributing to budgeting and forecasting support tasks as directed.
- Documenting financial processes and maintaining organised filing systems.
- Flagging discrepancies or anomalies in financial data for review.
- Participating in team meetings and contributing to operational improvement discussions.
Minimum Requirements
- South African Unemployed youth between the ages of 18 and 34.
- Must not have participated on the YES Programme before.
- Matric.
- Diploma or degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field.
- Basic understanding of accounting principles and financial statements.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel — able to work with formulas, pivot tables, and data formatting.
- Attention to detail and accuracy in handling numerical data.
- Good communication — proactive, asks questions, flags issues early.
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
- Eagerness to learn and take ownership of assigned tasks.
Nice to Have
- Exposure to accounting software such as Xero, Sage, or QuickBooks.
- Understanding of South African tax basics (VAT, PAYE).
