Key Duties and Responsibilities

Teaching and Learning

  • Prepare schemes of work, lesson plans, and learning materials in line with the approved curriculum.
  • Deliver age-appropriate learning activities that promote holistic child development.
  • Implement play-based, learner-centered teaching methodologies.
  • Foster creativity, curiosity, communication, and problem-solving skills among learners.
  • Integrate music, art, storytelling, and other interactive learning approaches.
  • Support the development of literacy, numeracy, and foundational life skills.

Child Care and Welfare

  • Ensure the safety, health, and well-being of all learners.
  • Supervise children during classroom activities, meals, playtime, and transitions.
  • Observe and monitor children's growth, development, and behavior.
  • Provide emotional support and create a nurturing learning environment.
  • Promote positive behavior and social interactions among learners.

Assessment and Evaluation

  • Conduct continuous assessments and observations of learners.
  • Maintain learner portfolios and developmental records.
  • Track and report learner progress to parents and school management.
  • Identify learners requiring additional support and recommend appropriate interventions.

Classroom Management

  • Organize and maintain a clean, safe, and stimulating classroom environment.
  • Prepare and manage teaching aids and learning resources.
  • Ensure proper use and care of classroom equipment and materials.
  • Maintain classroom displays and learning corners that enhance learning.

Parent and Community Engagement

  • Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding learner progress and welfare.
  • Participate in parent-teacher meetings and school events.
  • Encourage parental involvement in children's learning and development.
  • Work collaboratively with caregivers and other stakeholders to support learner success.

Administrative Responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate attendance, assessment, and learner records.
  • Attend staff meetings, training sessions, and professional development programs.
  • Prepare reports and documentation as required by school management.
  • Participate in curriculum implementation and school improvement initiatives.

Co-curricular Activities

  • Organize and participate in educational games, music, drama, sports, and talent development activities.
  • Support school events, celebrations, and educational outings.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Certificate, Diploma, or Degree in Early Childhood Development Education ECDE from a recognized institution.
  • Registration with the relevant education authorities as required.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Competency-Based Education CBE and ECDE curriculum.
  • Teaching experience in an ECDE or pre-primary setting is an added advantage.
  • Basic ICT skills are desirable.
