VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT
POSITION: VETERINARIAN — Commercial Agricultural Business
A large commercial agricultural business is seeking a qualified, experienced Veterinarian to oversee livestock health and welfare across its farming operations. The role includes working with commercial beef cattle and a breeding herd, sheep, goats, etc.
Key Responsibilities
- Diagnose and treat livestock illnesses and injuries.
- Develop and implement herd health programmes, including vaccinations and parasite control.
- Oversee reproductive health, breeding management and pregnancy diagnosis.
- Advise on nutrition, animal welfare and biosecurity.
- Monitor herd performance and maintain accurate treatment and health records.
- Train farm staff in animal handling, disease prevention and recognising signs of illness.
- Manage veterinary medicines, supplies and equipment.
- Travel between farms within Southern Malawi and respond to livestock emergencies.
Requirements
- Degree in Veterinary Medicine and registration, or eligibility for registration, with the relevant veterinary authority in Malawi.
- Practical experience working with cattle, preferably commercial beef and breeding herds.
- Strong knowledge of herd health, reproduction and disease prevention.
- Ability to work independently and communicate clearly with farm teams.
- Good record-keeping and organisational skills.
- Valid driving licence and willingness to travel within Southern Malawi.
- Experience with cattle.
