An HSE Officer is responsible for ensuring that all architectural projects, office operations, and construction-related activities comply with health, safety, and environmental regulations. The officer develops and implements safety policies, conducts risk assessments, promotes a safe working environment, and ensures compliance with relevant laws and industry standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and monitor health, safety, and environmental policies and procedures.
- Conduct regular site inspections and safety audits.
- Identify workplace hazards and recommend corrective actions.
- Carry out risk assessments for architectural and construction projects.
- Ensure compliance with local and company HSE regulations.
- Investigate accidents, incidents, and near-misses and prepare reports.
- Organize safety training, inductions, and awareness programs for employees and contractors.
- Monitor the use of personal protective equipment PPE.
- Maintain HSE records, documentation, and reports.
- Coordinate emergency preparedness and response activities.
- Advise management on safety improvements and regulatory requirements.
- Monitor environmental impacts and ensure proper waste management practices.
Requirements
Educational Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or Higher National Diploma HND in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, Architecture, or a related field.
Professional Certifications
Preferred certifications may include:
- Institute of Safety Professionals of Nigeria certification.
- National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health Certificate or Diploma.
- Occupational Safety and Health Administration certification.
- First Aid and CPR certification.
Experience
- 1–3 years of HSE experience, preferably in architecture, construction, engineering, or related industries.
- Experience conducting safety inspections and risk assessments.
